The 97-year-old Newark New Century Club building on Delaware Avenue is no longer standing, but members are still holding true to the club’s tradition of giving back to the Newark community.
This week, the club dispersed $50,000 in grants to eight local nonprofit organizations, including the Newark Empowerment Center, Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay, Hope Dining Room, Little Sisters of the Poor, Newark Area Welfare Committee, W3R Delaware (Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail), Newark Arts Alliance and the Newark Historical Society.
The money was part of what the club received for selling its former clubhouse to a developer in 2013.
